With the introduction of new laws promoting greater awareness of disabled web
users, we at Covéa Life Limited have reacted early. From
the coding to the copy, we have strived to make this website simpler,
clearer and easier to use - not just for people with disabilities, but for all
our visitors to www.sli365.com.
The result
is an improved accessible web user experience. This site complies with all
priority one and many priority two checkpoints of the Web Content Accessibility
Guidelines (WCAG), and as many as possible of priority three. We have included
accessibility checks in every step of our design and build process.
We have designed, structured and tailored the site to work for people with
different browsers, devices and disabilities. A number of features of this site
include:
Access Keys
Access keys are shortcuts to provide quick and easy access to common pages
without the need for a mouse and have been included to assist users with
disabilities navigate the web site more easily. We are following the UK
Government recommendations for access key assignments which is emerging as a
worldwide standard.
Listed below are the access keys we use consistently on every page of the site.
- - Home
- - About
- - Testimonials
- - Unit Support
- - FAQs
- - Documentation
- - Contact
- - Media
To initiate these access keys in the Windows Operating system you can usually
press ALT+ access key + ENTER. On a Macintosh it is usually CONTROL + access key.
Text Size
This site uses only relative font sizes and therefore is compatible with the
user-specified text size option in visual browsers. The text size can be
changed in Internet Explorer through the View > Text Size menu.
And in Mozilla/Netscape, through the View > Text Zoom menu.
Alt text
All images that are used to illustrate content include the alt attribute to
provide descriptive text alternatives. Images that have a decorative function
have an 'empty' alt attribute.
Link Titles
A title attribute has been added to links which describe the link in greater
detail. If the text of the link provides a clear explanation of the 'target'
then the title attribute has not been used.
Javascript
The site does use some JavaScript but this does not affect accessibility.
Site features
- Consistent navigation
- Scalable text
- Clearly labelled graphics and image maps
- No flickering or strobing graphics
- Cross browser compatible
Web Standards
This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout and is built to W3C
standards. The XHTML and CSS is valid and the site has been built according to
the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 level A. This site has not
been able to attain the AA standard due to a pop-up window for the quote engine
and the fixed width design.
Covéa Life Limited endeavours at all times to make the
site as accessible as reasonably possible to all users. In no way does Covéa
Life Limited seek to deliberately discriminate against any
users access to the website service in accordance with the Disability
Discrimination Act 1995.
Browser Compatibility
We test all our sites in all modern browsers on Windows, MacOSX and Linux. All
pages on this site use structured semantic markup.
If your browser or browsing device does not support modern coding techniques,
the content of each page is still readable and is presented in a logical order.
